    Academy Award-winning actor Ernest Borgnine is known for his many film roles, including From Here to Eternity, Bad Day at Black Rock, The Poseidon Adventure, The Ghost of Flight 401, McHale's Navy, and as the Roman Centurion in the television film Jesus of Nazareth.

    Borgnine also appeared in many television series like The Love Boat, Highway to Heaven, Airwolf, and Magnum P.I. His path to becoming a Hollywood legend began in the Barter Theater in Virginia.

    Borgnine was a Freemason in Abingdon

    Borgnine was born in Hamden, Connecticut, on January 24, 2017. After World War II, he worked in a factory when his mother suggested he try acting onstage. He attended the Randall School of Drama in Hamden and later moved to Virginia, where he became a member of the Barter Theatre in Abingdon.

    In 2000, Abingdon Lodge No. 48 presented Borgnine with his 50-year pin as a Freemason. In June 2012, the iconic ninety-five-year-old actor had surgery and died a month later, on July 8, from renal failure at age 95.
