    Orthorexia treatment is available

Anorexia is when people decrease their consumption of food because they believe they are fat when they are not. Walden Eating describes a lesser-known disorder, Orthorexia, where there is an obsession with healthy eating, and entire food groups may be cut out.

WDBJ7 reports to Southwest Virginia that the sister of Dawson's Creek actor Obi Ndefo (Bodie Wells) says her brother succumbed to Orthorexia at the age of 51. Nkem Ndefo announced the death of her sibling, also known for "Stargate SG-1," in a Facebook post on Saturday.

Nkem said she was "heartbroken" at the loss of her younger brother, who, according to a post On X, died on August 28." The National Institute of Health says Orthorexia "may lead to malnourishment, loss of relationships, and poor quality of life."

If you or someone you know is dealing with this or another eating disorder, Psychology Today has a list of treatment centers in Virginia. In-patient, outpatient, and online assistance are available in the Commonwealth.
