Freak accident on I 64 West

A tractor-trailer driver in Henrico County was charged with reckless driving after a freak accident on I 64 West. WRIC reports that 62-year-old Richard D. Houston Jr. of Lorton in Fairfax County crashed his truck bed into the overhead signs earlier today.

Virginia State Police reported that the truck had stopped at a weigh station before the accident. 12 On Your Side reveals the empty truck bed was taken down from the sign around 11 a.m., but the interstate remained closed.

“The cab continued on and then stopped, obviously, cause it had separated from the bed of the tractor-trailer,” said Matt Demlein, a spokesperson for Virginia State Police. “We’re still investigating as to what led up to it actually hitting the sign.”
