    Chapstick was created in Lynchburg

Chapstick is a worldwide lipbalm brand invented in Lynchburg, Virginia, by Dr. Charles Browne Fleet. The physician and pharmacological thinker created the product by hand in the early 1800s. It resembled a wickless candle wrapped in tin foil, was sold locally, and was not initially successful.

Fleet was born in King and Queen County, Virginia on September 18, 1843. His company, CB Fleet. is owned by Gryphon Investors and continues to produce laxatives, enemas, and douches today.

In 1912, John Morton, also a Lynchburg resident, bought the rights to the product for five dollars. In their kitchen, Mrs. Morton melted the pink ChapStick mixture, cooled it, and cut it into sticks. Their lucrative sales were used to found the Morton Manufacturing Corporation

Chapstick changed hands many times and today is owned by the Suave company. It remains a top seller although there are many moe lip balms on the market today.
