Forrest Gump was released in 1994 and was an instant hit. Today, it is a classic. According to Wikipedia, the principal photography was done in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia between August and December 1993, and some scenes were shot in Virginia.

Portions of the three year running scenes in Forrest Gump were said to have been filmed in Coastal Virginia, the Eastern Shore region, which stretches 70 miles between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean and cab only be accessed via the 17.5-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, which is underwater.

Worldwide Film Locations lists North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. in Eastern part of the US as Forrest Gump film locations, but not Virginia.
