Roanoke teen is injured by car and then charged

WSLS 10 reports that a Virginia teenager who was hit by a car and hospitalized is now facing charges. The accident happened when the teen visited a sick friend on Yellow Mountain Road in Garden City in Southeast Roanoke.

Trevor Kirby said the boy left his home and walked down the driveway to catch a school bus. Kirby heard a screech and found the teen on the ground, screaming in pain.

He was hospitalized and had a broken spot in his spine; one of his vertebras was broken, and his leg was broken in two places. He had a surgery where they went in and put a plate and a rod with six screws in his leg,"

Pedestrians can be charged as well as drivers

Police did nto explain why the injured teen was charged but cited Virginia code§ 46.2-923, which describes where pedestrians can cross the road. Kirby added that a camera shows the young man stopping at the bottom of the road, and he doesn't understand why he was charged.

He also mentioned drivers not slowing down and paying attention. Drivers and pedestrians should be more careful on Virginia roads because the law dictates that both may be charged.

Idk Anyone who Wants Spine surgery or to break their leg in several places. Im sure this teen who seems helpful bc...remember..he was visiting a sick friend, didn't just run out w out looking. Had Same problem w my mother-in-law who was killed crossing the road. Cited the same code and weather conditions for her death and NEVER charged the driver..who WAS at fault in our families opinion. They didn't know my mother-in-law personally or know how particular she was about crossing the street. Amherst Did a Poor investigation. So that driver got away w involuntary vehicular manslaughter in Madison Heights Va. Ppl PLEASE B CAREFUL CROSSING VA ROADS!! Drivers r crazy here in VA. I see ppl all the time not checking left and right when walking bc they "assume" drivers Will stop. Whether in parking lots or crosswalks or wherever...they Shld..but A LOT of drivers r too distracted! Hell most r looking at phones and do not see u! Don't trust it. And Watch out for yourselves first. ♥️
