Tea bags could be victims of shrinkflation

A Reddit user addressed an issue that some Virginians have been discussing in recent years. Tea bags seem smaller and less potent than they used to be. Sheryle E. and Liz J, from Southwest Virginia, said they once could make a gallon of tea from one bag when brewed correctly.

Today, they must use two or three tea bags to obtain the same potency. This may result from shrinkflation, where businesses decrease the size of a product to keep from raising the price.

The Independent says tea bags and other consumer goods are more than just being downsized. They are also being downgraded, which might explain why it takes more tea bags to make a gallon of tea than it did years ago.
