Eating food through the day is called a piecemeal

A recent Facebook post revealed that a man had eaten a hamburger one night and French fries the next rather than together as a meal. This brought to mind the definition some Southwest Virginians use for Piecemeal.

When someone did not sit at the table and eat their meal all at once but consumed the food a little at as time throughout the day or evening, older generations would say they were eating a piecemeal.

Taking time to finish projects is considered piecemeal work

Not only is a Piecemeal a label for food but also a metaphor for someone who finishes a project like remodeling a vehicle or a house little by little over an extended period. Grammarly says when something is done through a series of steps it's a piecemeal.
