There are more job openings than people to fill them

Since COVID-19, Virginia has dealt with a shortage of employees to fill job openings. Some companies have closed, others have shortened their hours, and some, at times, don't open as scheduled because employees don't show up on time.

Stacker reveals that there are now more job openings in the state than unemployed individuals. The Chamber of Commerce revealed the following regarding June and July 2024.

According to government jobs data, there were 8.2 million open jobs in the U.S. in July and only 7.1 million unemployed workers. Even if every unemployed worker had a job, the nation would still have millions of unfilled positions.
