If you decide to Walk Like an Egyptian, as The Bangles sang in their hit song, you should consider stopping by 901 E. Cary St. in Richmond, Virginia. There, you will find an Egyptian-style building that was constructed in 1846.

This is the oldest structure still used on the medical or academic campuses of VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University). Today, the Egyptian Building only houses offices and lecture space. It is also said to have been the location of supernatural activity.

The top flooris where the action is

The top floor once housed ventilated wards and dissection rooms and became a location known for supernatural tales. According to the VCU website, Amanda Shaw, who works in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, experienced a strange event in the building.

She said water faucets in a restroom were turning themselves on and off, and she saw a doctor who appeared and then disappeared while she was working in her office.

The Roanoke Times reports that this unique structure is one of the last remaining Egyptian Revival architectural styles in the US. In 1969, the National Register of Historic Places recognized it as the oldest medical college building in the South.
