This past Thursday, Virginians could view the splendor of the Northern Lights. There is another feat of nature just as spectacular that randomly appears in the Commonwealth-a moonbow

In 2018, The Washington Post reported a double moonbow was seen over the mountains of Virginia. Also known as a moon rainbow or lunar rainbow, this phenomenon happens when the refraction of rain droplets is opposite the moonlight rather than the sun.

Moonbows can be found in certain regions of Hawaii and the US East Coast. In March of this year, WCYB reported spotting a lunar rainbow in Washington County, Virginia.
