New tropical storm system forming in the Atlantic could reach Va., N.C.

Tropical Depression Four is expected to become a tropical storm late Saturday night.

On the forecast track, the depression is expected to move over the eastern Gulf of Mexico Saturday and Sunday, and then move near or over the west coast of Florida late Sunday or Monday.

The depression is expected to become Tropical Storm Debby Saturday night. It is then expected to rapidly strengthen Sunday through Monday. The system could be near hurricane strength as it reaches the Florida Gulf Coast.

It is still too early to tell how this storm could impact us here at home. Right now, this has the potential to be a big rainmaker for Georgia, the Carolinas and maybe even Virginia. If you look at the track, you'll see the end is a big circle. That means the storm is expected to stall, which is never a good thing! There is still a lot of uncertainty with this system, but it looks like we will be watching it and potentially dealing with it through next weekend.
