DIY Caramel Apples: Economical & Delicious
15 days ago
Whenever it hits near Halloween, my kids would see the caramel apples in the store. Of course I didn't leave the store without them because I like them also then we started to make our own caramel apples at home and the kids could decorate them anyway they wanted. They could decorate with chocolate chips, nuts, tiny marshmallows, skittles, coconut, sprinkles, mini M&M's, toffee pieces or just leave it plain caramel. In this day and age with everything being so expensive and one caramel apple costing you two dollars it is more economical to make it at home. I normally buy the green apples because they are tart with the sweet buttery caramel and whatever else the children would put on top of the caramel for sweetness.
Ingredients: 8–9 cold apple
1 and 3/4 cups (420ml) heavy cream
1 cup (240ml) light corn syrup
2 cups (400g) packed light or dark brown sugar
1/4 cup (4 Tbsp; 56g) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Parchment paper and cookie pan
Ready to make?😋
First, you will want to rinse your apples with water, then white completely dry. You want to remove the wax coating. This will help the caramel to seal to the apple. Remove the stem and insert your caramel apple stick about 3/4 down into the apple.
You can line your cookie sheet with your parchment paper greased with butter or just grease the pan with butter. If you have a silicone baking mat, that would work the best.
In sauce pan, you will combine the heavy cream, corn syrup, brown sugar, butter over medium heat. You do not want to change the heat temperature up or down. Keep it on medium the whole time while the car is cooking stir constantly with the wooden spoon until the butter is melted once your butter is melted brush down the sides of the pan with the water baking brush. If you have a candy thermometer, place it in your pan let it cook a bubble until reaches 235 Fahrenheit degrees should take about 15 to 20 minutes but don't use a time. It depends on your stove you want to avoid overheating, which can create air bubbles in the caramel and then on the apple. Allow the caramel to sit slightly holding the caramel apple stick The apples into the warm caramel tilting the pot, so it can coat all sides of the apple. Lift the apple and swirl it to get the apple out of the pan. Now you will coat your 🍏 apple with the nuts or any treats that your children or yourself would like. Please share Apple on your prepared pan. Allow the apples to sit for approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
You can also drizzle with wait chocolate or milk chocolate.
You can Lely cover and store the leftover dipped apples in the refrigerator for up to one week, but I doubt that they will last that long.
Cleaning a sticky sauce pan is not fun. My advised is to fill the saucepan with water until it covers all the candy residue place your sauce pan on the stove on low heat heat. Let the warm water simmer and melt the sugars off the side of the pan. This will make it easier to get the caramel out of your saucepan.
