The Perlmans own a villa outside of Moscazzano in Northern Italy, where they spend their summers and Hannukah. They invite a graduate student to spend six weeks with them over the summer to help Professor Perlman with his work. This summer - 1983 - the student in question is an American named Oliver. While there, Oliver largely associates with the Perlmans' seventeen year old son Elio and Elio's friends, the females among the group whose hearts are aflutter by Oliver's preppy good looks. Oliver, in fact, takes up casually with one of them, Chiara. Elio is an intellectual, but has no experience with girls as he is only now experimenting with his initial stage of manhood and masculinity. If not for Oliver, Elio probably would have chosen Chiara himself, and as such takes up with Marzia instead. Despite their social association and sleeping in adjoining rooms in the villa, Elio doesn't much like Oliver in thinking him too cocky and arrogant partly in that brash American sensibility. In turn, Oliver believes Elio is patronizing in his outward dislike of him. These outward behaviors mask the fact that there is a deep attraction between Elio and Oliver based largely on their admiration of the other's intellect. When they eventually admit that attraction late into Oliver's stay, Oliver is more reticent to act on those feelings in not wanting to ruin his own or Elio's life in still being in the closet, while Elio wants to experience all that sex and love are as he is in the flush of first real love. With Oliver and Elio's clandestine relationship, Elio has to figure out what to do about Marzia, he who may be aware or unaware of her own very deep feelings for him in also experiencing that flush of first love. The other question then becomes if Elio will be able to recover as there will definitely be an end at least to this phase of Oliver and Elio's romance when Oliver leaves to go home at the end of the summer

That ending gives me chills everytime. I. Need. To. See. This. Movie. Right. NOW. That car door opening could have been catastrophic.

This movie was such a risky movie to make, and a risky book. im beyond thankful that they made this movie. to show young love and to show that you dont have to hide who you are. some people in out society are scary and would hate this movie, but you have to ignore those people. this movie is really going to go down in history as one of the best screenplays ive ever seen...
Finally a hollywood movie that doesnt bow down to the liberal agenda. 6:00 was so funny. This movie shot me straight back to my adolescent exploration of love. After seeing it I went through days of processing old, deep-set emotions I pushed away at the time to not feel so much pain. It gave me a gift of cathartic processing. Ive fallen in love with both of them and Im so grateful for this film. My heart feels different, the quivering of innocent love alive again. 💖. Armie seemed so disappointed when it wasn't fan art of him and Timmy 👀.

A movie legend is finally recognized. I just need a movie about two actors that are going to play a romance movie, but they happen to actually fall in love with each other. Its been 6 months and this film is still constantly in my head. Its an experience just as much as it is a story. It ticks so many boxes. Cinematography, soundtrack, acting. This movie was so beautiful. Best movie I've seen in a long time. Those slow moments were some of the best moments.

I think that this is the purest scene in the entire film and book. I love how they played this out here. Like everything they do says so much, and how they talk about it, just ugh. Timmys face at 2:18 –that boy is on the “Happy Tears Express.”. Really in love with the soundtrack of this movie. the ravel in the background just makes this even more enchanting. This scene alone deserves him any award, The happiness (Oliver called) surprise (about the engagement) inner anger (about the marriage) subtle pleading (when he told Oliver the his parents knows about them sort of What about us) and longing(calling Oliver by his own name)convey so well, This is THE SCENE that will end all scene.
They call it art but I think they were falling for each other. anyways, this is my favorite movie in the whole world. CMBYN Should win the 4 oscars. I hope hell also write the sequel of Call Me By Your Name. The fact that this is one take is incredible! Amazing scene from an amazing film.
I ship. I know he has a wife and Timothee is straight, but I still ship. Remember when we were playing volleyball and I touched you just to show that I liked you that's my fav part 😍😍❤ these two bring so much light I love these two. The part where he says He made me feel like I was a part of the family, almost like a son-in-law. is so heartbreaking when you think of how the parents react to their relationship and just hope for them to be happy. Whenever I think of the future I used to imagined where we could be together, wake up next to you in the morning, having breakfast and all such daily routine, like a family. That breaks my heart every single time.
