The Deep Creek Bridge in Chesapeake will be closed during daytime hours on Sunday, Aug. 18, to allow “minor” repairs to be completed, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Thursday.

The bridge, which connects Old Mill Road and Moses Gandy Trail, will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The repairs will include fixes to the 90-year-old bridge’s support beams to address “accelerated corrosion” that was found during a recent routine inspection, according to the USACE.

While the repairs are minor, Chesapeake Public Works said in a post on X these fixes are “urgent,” though the bridge remains safe in the meantime.

These repairs aren’t related to the expansive Deep Creek Bridge Replacement Project, rather they are needed for the existing bridge to safely operate until the first two lanes of the new bridge open in 2025 , the USACE said in a news release.
