It’s hard to find a person who doesn’t enjoy a fairy tale — especially one with a charming prince, obnoxious stepsisters, a fairy godmother or two, and a down-on-her-luck heroine.

The Hurrah Players opens its 40th anniversary season this weekend with “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.”

The show runs Friday through Sunday at the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center in Norfolk, and next Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.

After four decades of producing and directing plays, Hugh Copeland, the founder of Hurrah Players, wanted to open this milestone season with a story that’s timeless.

“Because we knew we needed a classic, because it’s important people know it, and this show is beloved,” he said. “It’s got a long history, and the talent we have is really right for this show.”

The production features children, teenagers and adults playing age-appropriate roles.

Stephanie Tillman Liggins, who plays Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother, debuted with the Hurrah Players when she was 5,  playing a mouse in — you guessed it — “Cinderella.”

“So the Fairy Godmother,” Copeland said, “is outstanding.”
