VISALIA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Gunshots were fired after an altercation took place early Sunday morning in Downtown Visalia, according to the Visalia Police Department.

Police say around 1:50 a.m. they responded to a report of shots fired near Garden Street Plaza in Downtown Visalia.

Responding officers say they learned a fight had broken out in a parking lot near Garden and Main Streets where multiple people were assaulting a man.

Investigators report security officers nearby intervened by using non-lethal weapons, causing the suspects to flee. As they were fleeing, the suspects fired several rounds at the man involved in the initial argument.

No one was struck by gunfire and detectives are actively working to determine the identities of the suspects involved.
