VISALIA, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A bicycle and pedestrian safety operation on Tuesday left several drivers in Visalia with traffic tickets.

Visalia police say they issued 14 citations for a variety of violations that took place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Officers say 16 people were contacted during the safety operation.

Changes are coming to Friant Road in Fresno: ‘It’s not a safe corner’

“Safety is a shared responsibility, with drivers holding the greatest responsibility to keep other road users safe,” Officer Robert Gilson said. “We hope this operation serves as a reminder to everyone to practice due care and to look out for one another.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 7,522 pedestrians and 1,105 bicyclists were killed in traffic crashes in 2022. Bicycle and pedestrian safety operations aim to reduce these numbers.
