Ever wonder how your cat expresses love? While dogs might shower us with wet kisses and tail wags, cats have their own unique, often subtle ways of showing affection. These small gestures can be easy to miss but are profound displays of love once you know what to look for. Let's uncover some of these less obvious signs that your cat adores you.

    The Soft Paw Pat

Have you ever felt a gentle pat from your cat’s paw, maybe while you were busy on your laptop or reading a book? This soft touch is not just a bid for attention; it's a sign of trust and comfort. Cats use their paws to explore and express curiosity, so a soft pat on your arm or leg is like a little hello from your furry friend.

    Eye Contact with a Blink

Eye contact from a cat can be a bit rare, which makes it all the more special when it happens. If your cat looks at you and blinks slowly, it’s a sign often referred to as a "cat kiss." This slow blink is a way your cat shows they are comfortable and content with you. It's their way of smiling at you with their eyes.

    Following Your Routine

Does your cat follow you from room to room, or always seem to be nearby, no matter what you’re doing? When cats choose to be around you, even if it’s just lying in the same room, it’s a clear sign they feel bonded to you. They’re not just after warmth or food—they genuinely enjoy your company and want to be part of your daily life.

    Kneading: More Than Comfort

Kneading is often seen when cats are settling down for a nap, but it’s also a behavior rooted in kittenhood. Cats knead their mothers when nursing to stimulate milk flow. When your cat kneads on you, it’s not only seeking comfort but also expressing deep-seated affection, recalling the nurturing comfort from their kitten days.

    The Curious Tail Intertwine

Cats often express their affection by intertwining their tails around the legs of their favorite humans. This tail curling is similar to a child holding a parent’s hand, a sign of trust and a desire to stay connected. It’s a small gesture, but it speaks volumes about their feelings towards you.

Discovering Love in the Little Things

Cats may not wear their hearts on their sleeves, but they have many ways to show their affection. By noticing and appreciating these subtle behaviors, you can better understand and deepen the bond with your cat. These small gestures of love are their way of communicating a big feeling—affection.

I’ve had cats since I was 6. I’m 68 now. I only have 6 now. Two are super seniors at 19, one is 11, three are 9. They are all ferals and rescues.
