Why It’s Time To Ditch The 8 Glasses Of Water A Day Rule
Products are independently selected by our editors. We may earn an affiliate commission from links. Staying hydrated has become something of a status symbol—just take a look at the Stanley water bottle going viral on TikTok to the “smart” waters lining the shelves in your local grocery stores. And while the old “drink eight glasses of water a day” line has reigned supreme for many years now, Dr Emily Leeming, whose book, Genius Gut, is out soon, points out that this is an arbitrary number and not based on any real evidence.
Why This Quietly Glamorous Tuscan Seaside Town Is Having a Moment
In its mid-century heyday, Porto Ercole, a small seaside village on the eastern coast of Tuscany’s Monte Argentario, was much like Portofino—and perhaps even like Portofino as we know it today: a beloved seaside hideaway frequented by the glitterati, where jetties jutting out from its rocky shoreline graced with colorful umbrellas offered holiday tropes more commonly associated with the Italian Riviera or the Amalfi Coast.
The Rise of the Counter-Proposal—And How to Do It
Engagements have traditionally followed a familiar formula: one proposal, one engagement ring. While this ritual holds plenty of nostalgia and charm, it’s hard to deny its very gendered roots and one-sided nature. To that end, it’s no surprise that when queer folks obtained the right to legally marry, they also expanded the custom to create a more equal exchange. While some will have a double proposal—where they ask each other to get married at one big planned moment—others will have two separate or counter-proposals. And, instead of just one engagement ring, there are usually two.

Are You Eating Too Much Salt? Here’s What You Should Know About This Common Table Condiment
If I had to choose one ingredient I couldn’t live without, salt would be at the top of my list—it has the remarkable ability to transform even the blandest of foods. Composed of chlorine and sodium, salt has been an integral part of human history, dating back as far as the Neolithic period, when it was used to preserve food. The salt we use in everyday cooking nowadays not only enhances the flavor of our food, but is also an essential nutrient. It’s necessary for several vital body functions, including balancing electrolytes and fluids, carrying nutrients to cells, supporting nerve impulses, and enabling muscle contraction. However, consuming too much of it could be bad for you. But how much salt is too much?
Could Victoria Starmer’s Tenure in Downing Street Change the Role of Political Wives Forever?
I didn’t actually know what Victoria Starmer—the wife of Britain’s new prime minister—looked like until polling day. Which isn’t to say I knew nothing about her. I knew that she’d walked down the aisle to Beethoven thanks to Keir’s appearance on the BBC radio show Desert Island Discs; I knew that she worked in the National Health Service and was planning to continue her job in occupational health even if her husband got the top job; and I knew that she was Jewish. But somehow, I’d never actually seen a photo of her.
All The Health Benefits of Goji Berries, Gwyneth Paltrow’s Go-To Superfood
There’s a reason health-conscious celebs like Madonna, Victoria Beckham, and Gwyneth Paltrow swear by goji berries. The tiny superfruits known as “red diamonds” have a ton of anti-aging health benefits—including more vitamin C than oranges, more beta-carotene than carrots, and more iron than a steak weight for weight. They’re also rich in antioxidants and full of vitamins and minerals like B2, A, potassium, calcium, and more.

Quadrobics Is the Fitness Trend That Improves All-Over Strength (and Your Abs)
From forest bathing to cold water swimming, getting reacquainted with the natural world has been high on our collective agendas during the past couple of years. And a new fitness trend—that has garnered over 350K views on TikTok—potentially brings this craze to a peak. Say hello to quadrobics, a style of exercising that sees devotees using all four limbs, to “mimic the movements of various animals,” explains Tomi Akande, a personal trainer at UNTIL.
7 Couples Who Competed at the Olympics Together
Shared interests and activities are essential to any good romantic relationship. While for me and my partner, that looks like drinking orange wine and listening to Charli XCX together on the back porch, for many athlete-for-athlete couples, it’s going to the Olympics à deux. Ahead of the 2024...
You Don’t Need To Go on Vacation to Carry a Woven Bag
You don’t need to hit the beach to carry a woven bag this summer. Just ask the bevy of celebrities who are bringing their raffia totes, basket purses, and wicker bags to the airport, workout classes, and work engagements. Last year, Tomato Girl Summer reminded us that we can dress like we’re on vacation no matter the circumstances. This time around, the stars are applying that same logic to this beach vacation staple.
The Campus, a Collaboration Between Six New York Galleries, Is the Hudson Valley’s Latest Art Destination
School may be out for summer, but art class is in full swing at The Campus, upstate New York’s new cultural haven. Situated just outside of Hudson in a school left vacant since the 1990s, the project represents an unprecedented collaboration between six New York galleries: Bortolami, James Cohan, Kaufmann Repetto, Anton Kern, Andrew Kreps, and Kurimanzutto. On June 29, over 2,000 people celebrated the opening of The Campus’s inaugural exhibition, organized by independent curator Timo Kappeller, which is on view through October 27. Yet with 78,000 square feet of exhibition space, there was still plenty of room for the works of 80-plus artists—including Cecily Brown, Yinka Shonibare, and Jenny Holzer—to breathe.

Who Is Victoria Starmer, Britain’s New “First Lady”?
So, it’s official: the polls are in, and the Labour Party has triumphed in the 2024 U.K. General Election. Keir Starmer will govern the country with a considerable majority, moving into Downing Street from his north London townhouse imminently, alongside his wife Victoria Starmer. But who is the new Prime Minister’s wife and Britain’s new “first lady”?
The Labour Party Has Won a Landslide Victory in the U.K. Election—Now What?
For most in the U.K., last night’s election did not bring huge surprises. The polls had shown that a Labour landslide was likely, and that is what we got—at breakfast time today, the party won its predicted 410 seats. It is a stonking, historic majority which means that this government will be the largest party in Britain for the first time in two decades. From the exit poll onwards, it was clear that the electorate sought to brutally punish the Conservatives for 14 years of sleaze, suffering, and cynicism that has left children in poverty, households struggling, sewage on our beaches, and public services on their knees. As Starmer said in his victory speech, given from Tate Modern this morning while surrounded by grinning activists, the electorate is “ready for change, to end the politics of performance and return to politics as public service.”
‘We Said We Would End the Chaos, And We Will’: Keir Starmer Is Officially Britain’s Next Prime Minister
For the first time since 2010, Britain officially has a Labour Prime Minister. As expected, Keir Starmer and his party achieved a landslide victory in the 4 July General Election, gaining 410 seats—84 more than the 326 required for a majority in the House of Commons. In a speech at Tate Modern this morning, the newly elected PM declared that “change begins now,” insisting that the Labour Party is “ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service of working people”.

The storytelling was on point in Abarna Kugathasan’s second show for her label Kitschy Couture. Last February, she showed off her extravagant pieces (mainly dresses at the time) in a magnificent Tamil wedding ceremony in which the bride married herself. “Now this season is a honeymoon collection—after marrying herself, the bride is going on a honeymoon getaway to this artificial paradise.” Quite literal, the show that was imaginatively staged in Stadtbad Neukölln, a public pool, started with a scantily clad “bride” being sent on a journey by two male models, meaning she floated around on a giant inflatable swan.
Dolce & Gabbana Take Alta Moda and Alta Sartoria to Sardinia—“ What We Do, We Do Per Amore”
Another fashion week happens after the lights on the Paris haute couture catwalks go out. It comes courtesy of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who since 2012 have included in their flamboyant repertoire the Alta Moda collections, staged as extravagant multi-day affairs in Italy’s most picturesque locations. The Alta Moda grand tour is a luxurious treat to their community of deep-pocketed clients, who flock from around the world to take part in the designers’ exuberant festivities: They party, mingle with celebrities, and dress up to the nines, while shopping along the way for the next one-of-a-kind addition to their Dolce & Gabbana wardrobes. That price tags often reach to six figures is just a minor bother, shooed away like an annoying mosquito.
‘This Is How We’ll Normalize It’: Isha Ambani Piramal Opens Up About Her IVF Journey
After weeks of inclement weather, the clouds have parted in London. It appears as though the sun’s rays have unanimously agreed to converge on the 300 acres of Stoke Park. Illuminated by nature’s spotlight, Sasha poses in front of a hedge brimming with rhododendrons under the watchful eye of celebrity stylist Law Roach. When Law tells Sasha to angle her face a certain way, she does. When Law pairs Hunter rain boots with Loewe fall 2024 on Sasha, she happily obliges. When the hairstylist teases Sasha’s hair into a big halo of curls, she remains unperturbed. Sasha seems to have found calm in the eye of the storm.
7 Fiber-Rich Foods to Improve Your Gut Health and Longevity
In a world obsessed with protein, be a fiber devotee. That’s what health experts now advise, because statistics reveal the sorry fact that 95 percent of people are deficient in this essential dietary food. “It’s the closest thing we have to a superfood,” says Dr Emily Leeming, microbiome scientist and dietitian, whose new book Genius Gut is out soon.
