VOLANT, Pa. (WKBN) – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is doing a little community outreach and passing along an important message.

Workers put on an event Friday at their highway rest area along Interstate 79 in Volant.

As part of the display, there is a mobile memorial dedicated to the 90 PennDOT employees who were killed in construction-related accidents across the state since 1970.

“We’re in the middle of construction season so we understand that people are going through a lot of work zones,” said Yasmeen Manyisha, with PennDOT. “The people in those hard hats and vests, they’re not just figures who don’t matter. These are people’s friends, family, co-workers.”

Workers also passed out information and had travelers play a version of the “Plinko” game for giveaway prizes.

The memorial will be on display through Monday.
