Nonprofit Spearheaded by Lt. Gov. Robinson’s Wife Concludes Primary Functions Amidst Campaign Demand

    2024-04-05

A nonprofit organization, led by Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s wife, is gradually winding down its primary operations. According to a spokesperson from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Balanced Nutrition Inc.robinson autobiogra recently informed the agency that it will cease to be a sponsoring organization in the federally funded Child and Adult Care Food Program, effective April 30.

Yolanda Hill established Balanced Nutrition to assist childcare center operators in navigating the paperwork required to secure funding for healthy meals. Lt. Gov. Robinson worked for the nonprofit in 2018 before launching his campaign for lieutenant governor. In his autobiography, he credited Hill’s success with the nonprofit for enabling him to leave his job at a furniture company and pursue a political career.

Despite attempts to contact Balanced Nutrition, the listed phone number has not responded to anyone this week. Lt. Gov. Robinson’s campaign for governor referred inquiries about the nonprofit to an attorney from the Brooks Pierce law firm, who has yet to respond.

In an email to Balanced Nutrition’s clients, Yolanda Hill explained that her husband’s campaign has left her extremely busy, and she no longer has the time to fulfill the role of a sponsoring organization.

During Robinson’s primary campaign, Balanced Nutrition faced criticism, with some labeling its work as part of the ‘welfare state.’ The organization’s involvement in the Child and Adult Care Food Program has been a topic of debate, and its decision to wind down operations adds further complexity to the discussion.

Hill’s decision to leave the organization raises questions about the impact of her husband’s candidacy on her work. It also raises questions about the public’s trust in both organizations.
