ARLINGTON, TX ( FOX 44 ) — The Baylor Baseball team came up short in its season opener on Friday, as the Bears lost against Nebraska in the opener of the Shriners Children’s College Showdown.

It was a slow start for both offenses from the opening pitch, as both starting pitchers found plenty of success. That included Baylor opener Mason Marriott, who threw nearly 5.2 without allowing a hit, while striking out a career high 10 batters.

The Cornhuskers ended up striking first in the contest, before Hunter Simmons hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game up at 1-1.

From there, it was all Nebraska, as the Cornhuskers scored three runs in the final two innings to put the game away for good.

Next up for the Bears is a matchup against Oregon, with first pitch set for Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 am.
