WACO, TX ( FOX 44 ) — Following his decision to turn down interest from Kentucky to stay at Baylor earlier this month, Scott Drew spoke publicly for the first time Tuesday to explain what went into his decision.

In an interview with Baylor+, Drew said that while he believed that there was a platform to spread the Culture of JOY at Kentucky, he believes that God called him to remain in Waco.

“My family loves it here. There’s more work to be done. I felt at peace staying here,” he said.

The opportunity with the Wildcats was the second from the Bluegrass State that Drew turned down during this offseason, as he chose instead to stick around at a place where he’s been since 2003.

“Our players are faced with tough decisions all the time and sometimes it’s easier to preach a sermon than to actually live it out and going through tough decisions and how you go about it,” said Drew. “There’s great peace when you make a decision in a Godly manner.”

There was plenty of chaos taking place online for Drew as well during the process, as he says he received over 600 texts and 300 emails every day as he was deciding between the two basketball programs.

In the end though, he will stay with the Baylor Basketball program for a 22nd season with the Bears, as they turn their attention towards a season in which they will viewed as one of the top teams in the country once again.
