Waco, TX ( FOX 44 ) — The Salvation Army is helping families and individuals this summer to beat the heat. This comes with the opportunity to gain a free fan, cool down and hydrate area.

The Waco Salvation Army has two great needs: donations of both cases of water and portable fans. Important resources as the temperatures get hotter.

To sign up for a free fan you can go to the social service office located on Waco Dr. with an I.D. in hand, you’ll just need to fill out some paperwork.

“We have a free fan program. They can come down to our thrift store. We’re also we have our social service office to apply for and receive those fans. And for those who don’t have a place to go, we’re offering a cooling center,” says Corps Officer for The Salvation Army, Maj. Jeff Miracle.

Located on Webster Ave. in Waco, the cooling stations will be open from 12PM to 4PM every day starting today until the end of September.

“They can come sit in some air conditioning, watch some TV, get some cold water and just get out of the heat because it can be extreme in this area,” says Miracle.

The Salvation Army is full of resources for those in experiencing hard times, especially during heat waves.

“I know several places but as a consistency of where you can come and get a meal and get warm when it’s cold. They provide that at The Salvation Army Kitchens here,” says Waco resident, Germaine Graham.

Germaine Graham is homeless. He’s been a part of this program for 5 years and says The Salvation Army has been a steady life line.

“I’m thankful for The Salvation Army and just all over, you know, because they do help,” says Graham.

The Salvation Army is committed to serving the Waco community all year around.
