Waconia teachers could be working under a new contract just about the time the new school year begins.

ISD 110 and the Waconia Education Association reached a tentative contract agreement at a June 17 meditation session after being in negotiations for over a year. Contract details were shared with the full teacher membership in person on July 11 and a vote on the contract is anticipated Aug. 21 during the first teacher workshops for the upcoming school year. Association bylaws do not allow for contract voting in the summer according to WEA leaders.

The package Waconia teachers are voting on is two two-year contracts, for 2023-2025 and 2025-2027. The contracts include a 2 percent one-time payment based on salaries earned in 2023-2024, and an additional one-time 2 percent payment for 2024-2025, then salary schedule increases of 3 percent in 2025-2026 and 5 percent in 2026-2027. Also, some step increases starting in 2024-2025 and increases to the district’s contribution to insurance premiums in 2024-2027.

ISD 110 indicates that negotiations with the district’s other employee groups are underway and progressing.
