Illinois Man Honors Late Wife With Lottery Numbers, Wins Massive Jackpot

An extremely fortunate Illinois resident won a giant lottery prize after purchasing a ticket using numbers that honored his late wife. According to Illinois Lottery , the Lotto player purchased the winning ticket at the BP in Wadsworth for the Monday, May 20th Lotto drawing, and ended up winning $1 million. His daughter revealed that he is not the only member of their family who plays those winning lottery numbers .

“Our family likes to play the same numbers in various Lottery games from time to time, and the numbers are very near and dear to our hearts. Since our mom passed away, we include numbers related to her that hold significant meaning for all of us.”

The daughter saw an article about a lottery ticket that was won nearby before her father called to share the exciting news.

“I actually saw a news story that a ticket was won nearby. So when my dad called me that night and said ‘I have big news - guess what?’ I rained on his parade when I said ‘We won a million dollars?’ He hadn’t seen the article yet. Everyone is really excited, but nobody is more excited than my dad!”

And it doesn't end there! The winner's daughter shared that the family plans to continue playing the lottery in hopes that numbers honoring their late mother will bring them more luck!

“My dad is convinced we will win one of those huge Mega Millions or Powerball jackpots next. We play for fun! It’s fun to think about who we’d share our prize money with, what causes we’d donate to, what we’d splurge on. There’s no harm in dreaming… but it’s even more fun when it becomes a reality.”

The BP in Wadsworth will also receive a $10,000 bonus just for being the location to sell the ticket.
