Older Adults in Illinois at Increased Risk for Suicide
Nearly 20 percent of suicides in Illinois between 2020 and 2021 were among people 65 years and older, according to recently released data from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The suicides disproportionately affected white men between the ages of 65 and 74 years, with at least a high school education living in small urban and rural environments and involving firearms as the source of fatal injury.

Eastham Capital acquired a 75% ownership interest in The Landing at Town Center, a mixed-use community in Vernon Hills, Illinois. Eastham Capital has invested through its current fund, Eastham Capital Fund VI, LP. The acquisition also includes a significant renovation budget. Chicago-based Bender Companies, who has partnered with Eastham Capital on multiple projects, will manage the property and oversee its enhancements.

Taking on a new language
When Kendra Anderson moved to Lake County, one of the first things she noticed was the large Spanish-speaking population. According to the United States Census Bureau, nearly 30% of people in Lake County over the age of five speak a language other than English at home. As she works on becoming a teacher, Anderson is hoping the Spanish she’s learned at College of Lake County (CLC) will help her become a better communicator.
