12U Baseball Team Heads to Hawaii
The baseball team that won their championship games paved the way for them to be eligible for the Pacific Southwest Cal Ripkin Allstar Tournament in Oahu, Hawaii. The parents, coaches, players, and everyone who worked as a team made this a possibility for these young men. Great job, Allstar Champions 12U!
Reno Drops Second Straight to Tacoma in 4-3 Loss
Tacoma, Washington. – The Reno Aces (14-5, 49-45) fell short to the Tacoma Rainiers (10-10, 53-42) in a 4-3 walk-off defeat on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium. Adrian Del Castillo led the offense charge, collecting three hits and driving in Sergio Alcantara to put the Aces up 3-0 in the fourth. The backstop continues his success in 2024, leading the Pacific Coast League in total bases (209), OPS (1.005), doubles (32), and extra-base hits (55).
Reno Fire Department Hosts Swift Water Training
Volunteers learned about the dangers of working near swift water as well as lifesaving techniques that can be used before the fire department's rescue team arrives. The Reno Fire Department was at Wingfield Park on Saturday July 20 hosting Swift Water Training for the Technical Large Animal Rescue Team known as LRTC (Least resistance Training Concepts).
Safe Embrace Hosting Hot Havana Nights Fundraiser
Safe Embrace is hosting a fundraiser at the National Automobile Museum on Saturday, July 20. The event will go from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The fundraiser, called Hot Havana Nights, will feature hand-rolled cigars from Ruiz Cigar, themed drinks and tapas, a performance from the Embrace Dance Company of Reno and remarks from Safe Embrace leadership.
Ales and Tails and Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary
Animal Ark in Reno is hosting Ales and Tails, a 21+ event, on July 20 from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The event costs $22 for adults and $20 for seniors 65+. There will be local beer and wine vendors, including Great Basin Brewery, Pigeon Head Brewery, 10 Torr, Lead Dog Brewing, Black Rabbit Mead Co. and Ponderosa Cider Co.
Car Wash Fundraiser for Families Undergoing Cancer Treatment
A car wash fundraiser is taking place at the Sinclair Gas Station at 800 Prater Way in Sparks. Proceeds will benefit two Sparks families who are currently undergoing cancer treatment: the Ganser and Savoie families. The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Mac Meissner tops leaderboard on moving day at the Barracuda Championship
Round three of the 26th annual Barracuda Championship is now complete after a weather delay this afternoon stopped play for about an hour. Rookie Mac Meissner's four birdies and one eagle helped him maintain his lead with +39 points, just edging out Vince Whaley (+38) and Rico Hoey (+36). Meissner is seeking his first PGA TOUR title in his 19th TOUR start.
Resident saved, two cats perish in North Mesa Street fire
Firefighters rescued a disable man during a Thursday afternoon fire at his North Mesa residence. Unfortunately, two cats were lost due to smoke inhalation. According to a statement from the Susanville Fire Department, about 12:54 p.m. Thursday, July 18, the Susanville Interagency Dispatch Center dispatched the SFD and CalFire to a reported fence and backyard fire in the 100 block of North Mesa Street.
Multiple hole-in-ones at Tahoe Donner Golf Course
TRUCKEE, Calif. – On July 12, San Fransisco resident Toby Chan scored his second ever hole-in-one. Chan hit the 145 yard hole-in-one on Hole 12 with his 8 Iron. He lost sight of the ball and when he went to the green, he couldn’t see it anywhere. It wasn’t until he went to remove the flagstick that he realized he had scored the hole-in-one.
Western Video Market Holds 35th Annual July Video Sale
From July 8-10, Western Video Market represented over 162,000 head of cattle in their 35th edition of the July video sale. The sale was broadcast live from the Silver Legacy Resort & Casino in Reno, Nevada. This sale featured cattle from some of the most prominent ranches in 14 western states. During the week, educational seminars were presented by industry leading companies, and over $50,000 was raised during the Buyer and Consignor Appreciation Dinner for the Hirschberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research in memory of Andy Peek. City of Reno hosting sixth cooking class for seniors
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The City of Reno will be hosting a sixth cooking class for senior citizens next week. The free class will be held at the Reno Elks Lodge on July 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and be taught by Chef Johnathan Chapin. The class will include affordable meals, taste testing, and items from stores that people can find around town.
Reno's third-party vendor overcharges for kids summer camp
Reno, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Some parents who send their kids to Reno summer camps were overcharged overnight. A parent reached out to News 4/Fox 11 who said their child is registered for Vacation Station, a weekly camp at a Reno recreation center. The price is $130 per week. But the parent said she woke up to find that she was charged $810. That's more than six times the regular price.
