Wadsworth destination playground nears halfway point of construction
WADSWORTH — Wadsworth’s new destination playground at Memorial Park is nearing the halfway point of its construction phase. The playground phase, an early part of the larger Memorial Park improvement project, began in late April after the demolition of the Kaleidoscope playground. Wadsworth Interim Service Director Matt Hiscock said the playground completion date may be sooner than expected.

Hardesty Park hosting popular food, arts events in Akron this week
AKRON, Ohio – The popular Taste of Akron and Akron Art Expo events return to Hardesty Park this week, featuring more than 30 food vendors and more than 100 artists. It’s the 45th year for the events, which celebrate food and art from around Akron and beyond. Taste of Akron is set for Thursday, July 25 from 5-9 p.m. and the Akron Arts Expo will be held Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ohio author uses Marietta as setting for new novel
WOOSTER — Ninety-five years ago, Wall Street crashed, leading to the Great Depression. Dottie Sines, a Wooster, Ohio, author, has set her first novel, “Where the Stars Cross” in the midst of that dark decade and on Sept. 11, New York-based publisher The Wild Rose Press will release the book worldwide.

Akron Art Museum to receive $2 million for project
AKRON — The Akron Art Museum will receive $2 million in funding from Substitute House Bill 2, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects across Ohio. The Akron Art Museum will use the funds to construct the Center for Digital Discovery, which will include a digital gallery, classroom and educational space, and immersive artist-created areas for all ages.

City to unveil utility box artwork in August
BARBERTON — The City of Barberton is close to unveiling selected artwork to be wrapped on 18 utility boxes throughout the city. Since June 21, the city’s Utility Box Art Committee has reviewed 92 submitted pieces from artists of all ages. Vanessa Johnson, administrative coordinator to Mayor William Judge, said the committee will next meet Aug. 8, where representatives from the city’s vendor, Pro Auto Wraps, will explain the process of placing the wraps on the boxes, the estimated lifespan of a wrap and other details.
