Maui wildfire survivors begin moving in to Laʻikū temporary housing project in Lahaina
The first four tenants have moved into newly completed units in the La‘ikū temporary housing project along Lahainaluna Road, Gov. Josh Green, M.D., announced. Construction of this housing reflects a partnership between Governor Green’s Administration including the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) and the Hawaiʻi Department of Education (DOE), as well as the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) and the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation (HCF) Maui Strong Fund. That survivors have already moved into the first units, is another positive stride forward for community members who lost homes in the devastating historic Maui wildfires of Aug. 8, 2023.
Man, 19, charged for using stolen credit cards at Waikiki store
HONOLULU (Island News) - A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged after Honolulu Police Department (HPD) officers found him with stolen credit cards. HPD detectives say Milton Henry Haliniak used the credit cards on Monday at a Waikiki store on Kaiulani Avenue. The owner of the cards reported them stolen after receiving a notification that they were being used at the store. The 50-year-old man called the police and was able to locate the suspect.

Residents of Honolulu's Moanalua Valley can breathe a sigh of relief as the Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park reopens its gates to the public. Officials reinstated access Tuesday morning following local pushback over the prolonged closure, which had been implemented as an effort to curb trespassers from invading the nearby Haiku Stairs during its dismantling phase.
