Hui Makaala Luncheon and Fashion Show
HONOLULU (Island News) -- Love and Vigor was the theme of The Hui Makaala scholarship luncheon and fashion show on Sunday at Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki. Okinawan dance and song were showcased at the 53rd annual scholarship fundraiser luncheon. Since it's inception, Hui Makaala has awarded more than $1.3 million dollars to 650 recipients . This year, the non-profit gave 8 Hawaii high school students college scholarships.

UH Men’s Tennis Welcomes Azuma Visaya: Former UCLA Player Joins 2024-25 Team
University of Hawai'i men's tennis head coach Hendrik Bode has added former UCLA player Azuma Visaya to the 2024-25 Rainbow Warrior roster, marking Visaya's return to his hometown of Honolulu. Visaya, with two years of eligibility remaining, boasts an 18-11 overall singles record over the past two years at UCLA. His achievements include clinching wins and reaching the third round of the ITA Southwest Regional. Coming back to Hawai'i after training in California and attending school in Florida, Visaya, a top recruit, is set to make a significant impact on the team, according to Bode.
4 Vulcans named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars
University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo golfers Nicholas Gomez, Junsu Im, Jordan Sato and Jacob Torres earned Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar recognition for averaging under 78.0 and achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher. The four Vulcans were among 226 NCAA Division II athletes from 77 schools.
