The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch through this evening for an area that includes Franklin and Wake Counties.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible, according to NWS. The watch area covers a portion of central North Carolina, including the following counties: Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Johnston, Nash, Orange, Wake, Wayne and Wilson.

The flood watch is through 12 a.m. July 19.

Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

A line of showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon into the early evening hours. Rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour in the watch area. This could lead to flash flooding.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
