From May 28-31 the Wake Forest FUNGO saw their first homestand of the season, facing the Carolina Ducks, Danville Dairy Daddies and Burlington Sock Pups.

Wake Forest took two wins in the three-game stretch, their first two wins of the year.

    Versus Carolina Ducks

On May 28, the Wake Forest FUNGO took on the Carolina Ducks, besting them 6-2.

FUNGO came into the matchup 0-2, falling in the first two games of the season, both of which came on the road. But FUNGO grabbed their first win in their first game in Wake Forest and their first win under new head coach Trevor Schock.

Wake Forest named Nick Widener their player of the game in the win. Widener pitched five scoreless innings, striking out four batters and allowing only a single hit.

Aaron Bock led the team at the plate with two hits, resulting in two RBIs, both stats-tying team highs. Neo Drew also had two hits, and while neither led to RBIs, both successfully led to a team-high two runs.

    Versus Danville Dairy Daddies

May 30 marked the second time this season the FUNGO took on the Dairy Daddies after falling to them in the season opener 3-0.

The Dairy Daddies again took the win, 13-8, taking the two-game season series over the FUNGO.

FUNGO went into the bottom of the eight down 10-6 but on a sacrifice ground out and an error by the Dairy Daddies, FUNGO put up two runs to narrow the deficit to two.

Danville, however, responded with three runs to put the game out of reach, giving FUNGO their third loss on the season.

    Versus Burlington Sock Pups

Wake Forest hopped right back in the driver’s seat the following day as they faced the Sock Pups on May 31 and took home the 6-5 victory.

FUNGO led 6-3 after six innings, and despite the Sock Pups dropping two runs in the top of the eight, the Wake Forest defense held on to their lead to take the 6-5 victory.

Drew played a significant role in FUNGO’s success at the plate. In his four at-bats, he had two hits, two runs, three RBIs, two doubles and a stolen base, leading the team in all five categories.

“I just wanted to have fun today,” said Drew.

With the win, FUNGO moves to 2-3 which places them No. 3 in the Central division.
