On June 22, the Wake Forest FUNGO took on the High Point Hushpuppies, taking the win 14-3.

This was the third meeting between the two teams, with Wake Forest sweeping the series thus far with three more to play in the regular season.

The two teams first faced off on June 4, FUNGO took the win 10-6. A week and a half later, on June 13, Wake Forest one-upped their first win, taking a 10-3 victory.

    How it happened

In the most recent meeting, FUNGO hit the road and took down the Hushpuppies on their home turf. The 11-point victory marked the largest scoring differential in a FUNGO this season, one more than their 10-0 wins against the Burlington Sock Pups and Reidsville Luckies.

Wake Forest got scoring in early, reaching home twice in the opening frame.

The Hushpuppies scored a run in the bottom of the third to narrow the deficit to one, however, FUNGO dropped four in the subsequent frame to extend their lead up to five.

Wake Forest added eight more runs between the seventh and ninth innings while the Hushpuppies could only add tack on two, securing a FUNGO victory.

Despite allowing seven hits, FUNGO managed to hold the Hushpuppies to just three runs while they scored 14 on 13 hits.

    Key performances

Grant Ross earned FUNGO Player of the Game in the win, reaching base on five of six plate appearances. He had three hits, one of which went for a double. He had three runs and three RBIs, amounting to six of FUNGO’s 14 runs on the day.

Aaron Bock reached base four times as he was walked thrice, but he made the most of his one hit, sending it over the left-field wall for a three-run homer.

Conner Elliot led the way on the mound, pitching in four innings. He allowed just two hits and a run while striking out six batters.

    Up next

Wake Forest will remain on the road as they head for Tarboro Municipal Stadium to face the Tarboro River Bandits on June 25 at 12 p.m.

This will come as the first of two meetings between the two teams this season.
