‘Pay What You Want’ Rock Island Public Library book sale
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) - The Rock Island Public Library is having a book sale where patrons can pick their price. According to a media release, this ‘Christmas in July for booklovers’ event will be held on July 26-27 from 10:00 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Rock Island Downtown Library located at 401 19th Street.
BUCKET LIST: Cedar Rapids firefighter selected as 1st Iowan to compete in the Mongol Derby
Every year, hundreds of people apply to take part in a historical horse race in Mongolia called the Mongol Derby, and for the first time ever an Iowan is making the cut. The 1,000 kilometer race is based off the same messaging system used by Genghis Khan around the 1200s.

Waterloo Pool Will Be Closing Early for the Season
Officials from the city of Waterloo confirmed that a popular local pool will be closing much earlier for the season than expected. It was announced that Byrnes Pool, located at 801 Campbell Avenue in Waterloo, will be closed for the rest of the summer. The pool closed on Tuesday, July 23rd.
John Deere says it's laying off salaried workers because of agriculture downturn
Deere & Co., the Illinois manufacturer of iconic tractors and combines, said Wednesday it’s laying off salaried workers but wouldn't say how many total would lose their jobs in Iowa and elsewhere. West Nile Has Been Found in Iowa Mosquitoes
The good news is that at the time of writing, no humans in Iowa have yet tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitos on the other hand have been found containing the virus in central Iowa. According to KCRG, mosquitoes were trapped at a park in West Ames sometime in mid-July. The park where these mosquitoes were found is sprayed or fogged every Wednesday night. Some of these mosquitoes contained the West Nile virus.
