YMCA Expands Early Childhood Programming
Janet Mills, center, cuts the ceremonial ribbon at the expanded YMCA childcare facility. Gov. Janet Mills stressed the importance of childcare and preschool programs on Tuesday during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Sanford-Springvale YMCA’s expanded childcare center. “High quality childhood programs prepare kids for success and give parents important peace of mind knowing that their children are learning in a safe environment,” said Mills, one of three state officials who attended the event.

Celebrated String Quartet Returning to Springvale
Quartet members Lydia Forbes and Kirsten Monke, seated, and Myles Jordan and Philipp Elssner. The DaPonte String Quartet, renowned for their exceptional musicality and artistry, returns to the Sanford Springvale Historical Museum with a concert at 4 pm on Sunday, Aug. 4, that will feature the debut of a new musician.
Art Day in the Park

The Sanford Arts Commission is sponsoring “Art Day in the Park” on Sunday, July 28 in scenic Gateway Park at the corner of Washington Street and Riverside Avenue. City Council July 16 Meeting Summary

Sanford city councilors approved a new business for the airport, heard updates on local public works projects and recognized public safety workers at their regular meeting July 16. All members were present, with Executive Administrator Lorisa Ricketts attending via Zoom.
Speedway 95 – Wednesday July 24 RESULTS
After 2 weeks of cancellations due to inclement weather, Speedway 95 was finally able to race on a Wednesday night. First on the agenda were the make-up races from the July 10 rain out, which were originally scheduled for July 17, but were rained out again. On July 10, the only feature completed before the program was washed out was the Road Runners. Donny Silva of Hudson took the win. Nicholas Wark of Etna finished 2nd, followed by Seth Woodard of Plymouth, Doug Woodard of Plymouth and Marcus Sapiel of Bradley in that order. On July 24, the make-up races for the July 10 rain-out were completed prior to the beginning of the regularly scheduled July 24 program.
