Officers responded earlier this month to a local hospital for an assault that had previously occurred in a Waldorf neighborhood.

Upon their arrival at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center on May 16, a man was lying in bed and officers observed severe swelling to his eyes and face, charging documents say.

His mouth was stuck open and he could not close it due to the severity of his injuries, and he was unable to speak. To answer limited questions from officers, he was able to type on his mother’s cellphone while she was in the hospital room with him, the documents say.

The man typed that he was in the area of Hatteras Circle in Waldorf when he was approached from behind and put in a chokehold. He began fighting and was able to get away after he had his Nike Jordan shoes, worth $400, and two iPhones, worth $1,500, stolen from him.

According to charging documents, the man suffered a fractured mandible and fractured orbital socket.

The man’s mother told officers on May 18 that her son was able to provide her with more information. He was inside of a vacant townhouse near Hatteras Circle with a group of people. While inside the house, he was attacked, the documents say.

After his escape, he flagged down an Uber driver who took him to his mother’s friend’s house, where he was put in contact with his mother and taken to the hospital soon after.

The man was able to provide an Instagram page for one of the suspects who allegedly assaulted and robbed him, charging documents say.

On May 21, while patrolling Hatteras Circle, two individuals allegedly ran out the rear of a house. They were ordered to the ground and complied, the documents say.

The two individuals were identified as D’Andre Jackson, 24, and Kenneth Terrell Maxwell Jr., 23, both of Waldorf.

Both men were arrested for burglary and brought in for interviews. Maxwell matched the description of the person on the Instagram page provided to officers and he allegedly confessed his involvement in the robbery to officers, the documents say.

Maxwell allegedly claimed that the victim owed one of his friends something, so they beat him up and took his shoes and phones. The shoes were allegedly thrown into a dumpster and the phones were placed under an air conditioning unit in the rear of 2580 Hatteras Circle, the documents say. Officers recovered the phones from the location, according to charging documents.

Jackson faces misdemeanor charges of destruction of property and fourth-degree burglary.

Maxwell faces charges of first- and second-degree assault, robbery and theft between $1,500 and $25,000.
