70-year-old killed in Hadley motorcycle crash remembered as ‘humble man’
A 70-year-old man from Western Massachusetts who died in a motorcycle crash last Saturday is being remembered for his tight-knit ties to his community. “James Henry Lis will be remembered as a humble man who loved his passions and his family dearly,” his obituary reads. “His memory will forever be cherished by all those who were fortunate enough to know him."
ZBA Denies Permit for Nonowner-Occupied Duplex on Chestnut Street
Report on the Meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals, August 22, 2024 , Part 2. This meeting was held over Zoom and was recorded. Lixiang Yao applied for a Special Permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) to convert the house she purchased in April at 161 Chestnut Street into a nonowner occupied duplex. The house is at the corner of Chestnut Street and Mattoon, near the middle school and high school and has an in-ground swimming pool in the rear. The previous owner occupied a one-bedroom accessory unit, while renting the two-story, three-bedroom main house. Both units are currently unoccupied, and the pool has not been opened this year. The property has had no rental registration permit since 2019.

Pioneer Valley buses rolling with PVTA strike averted
SPRINGFIELD — PVTA buses are picking up passengers this morning, just hours after a tentative agreement was struck with union workers who had voted overwhelmingly to strike. The announcement came at 6:36 a.m. today, about 14 hours after workers represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 448 voted 192 to 7 to strike, shutting down bus service in the Greater Springfield region. The union and the PVTA began negotiations in March.

The Cougars emerged victorious over the Bison with a final score of 3-1. The Cougars came out hungry and scored their first goal in the first 9 minutes of the match. The early lead put pressure on the Bison, but they responded with resilience. The Bison struck back in the 24th minute, when graduate student and team captain Grace Killman buried her first goal of the season. Killman's goal fired up her teammates, and the Bison fought to keep their momentum for the remainder of the first half.
