A boil water advisory has been issued for parts of Cherokee County in the city of Waleska's water system area, after service was interrupted in some areas Thursday evening.

The city announced Friday that the following areas are under a boil water advisory until further notice, for locations that had low pressure or were without water: Canyon Ridge, Mountain Crest, Camden Woods, Sam Nelson Road, Reinhardt College Parkway and Byrd Mountain.

The announcement came despite an earlier statement that a decision wouldn't be made until Monday.

Water service was disrupted Thursday evening in the area of Sam Nelson Road and Reinhardt College Parkway, from Sam Nelson Road to Sardis Circle, and according to the city was restored at 9 p.m.

Waleska City Clerk and Manager Robyn Smith said the interruption was caused by the water tank on Byrd Mountain Lane running low.

Smith said that households that had water working normally Thursday night do not need to boil water.

Friday morning, Smith that the city was taking samples and waiting to hear from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division before issuing a boil water advisory.

"Samples are being taken today, and once we hear from EPD on Monday (they are closed today) we will know if we need to issue one," Smith said in an email Friday. "It’s at the customers discretion on whether they want to boil or not."
