Alert: Washington Poison Center Warns Residents About Ground Cinnamon Products Containing Lead

    2024-03-30

The Washington Poison Center recently issued an advisory urging residents of Washington to dispose of and avoid purchasing various ground cinnamon products.

This cautionary measure comes in response to a warning from the Food and Drug Administration, which highlighted several ground cinnamon products containing elevated levels of lead.

    The Affected Products

Among the affected products are La Fiesta Brand Ground Cinnamon, Marcum Cinnamon Ground, Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon, MK Cinnamon Powder, Swad Cinnamon Powder, and El Chillar Ground Cinnamon. These items are mainly found in discount retailers such as Family Dollar, Dollar Tree, La Superior, and SuperMercados.

    Products Potentially Sold in Washington

Two of the cinnamon products that may be available in Washington are La Fiesta Brand Cinnamon Ground and Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon. Although the levels of lead in these products are considered small, there have been no reported illnesses related to their consumption thus far.

However, prolonged use of these products can lead to harmful effects due to the accumulation of lead in the body. If there are concerns about children consuming the mentioned cinnamon products, it is advised to consult a healthcare provider for a blood test to check for lead poisoning.

For more information and resources on lead poisoning, individuals can contact the Washington Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222.

    What Are Your Thoughts?

    • Have you purchased any of the mentioned ground cinnamon products?
    • How concerning is the presence of elevated levels of lead in food products to you?
    • Do you believe additional regulations should be in place to prevent such incidents in the future?
