Battling Graffiti: Spokane Applies Anti-Graffiti Coating to Monroe Street Bridge

    2024-04-23

Workers from the City of Spokane recently applied anti-graffiti coating to the surfaces of the Monroe Street Bridge.

The municipal government reported that the staff first removed existing graffiti before applying the new coating. The Spokane Police Department is encouraging property owners to consider adding clear coating to surfaces that may be targets for graffiti, making it easier to remove.

Cost of Graffiti Removal and Reporting

The Washington State Department of Transportation spent more than $1.4 million on graffiti removal in the last biennium and anticipates even higher expenses in the upcoming years as graffiti-related issues continue to rise. Residents are reminded that graffiti can be reported as a code compliance violation either online through City Services or by calling 311.

Efforts to Sustain a Clean Environment

Mayor Lisa Brown is dedicated to maintaining cleanliness in Spokane beyond just the spring season. She is optimistic about the positive changes implemented to keep the city clean.
