While some students were headed to out-of-state colleges or directly into the workforce through a trade, half of the board was dominated by cards signaling one of Iowa’s public universities as students’ next step.
60 MPH Winds and Hail Expected as Severe Storms Hit Iowa
Des Moines, IA – Iowa could see an isolated chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon, bringing 60 mph winds and hail. Weather models indicate that a weak Mesoscale Convective Vortex (MCV) from morning storms may enhance the afternoon storm activity, leading to moderate buoyancy and deep-layer shear around 25 knots. The stronger storms could produce isolated strong gusts exceeding 60 mph and marginally severe hail. This weather activity is expected to diminish by early to mid-evening.
EDM Festival Shifts Location from Independence to Waterloo

Second not guilty plea in $100,000 theft from Floyd County senior citizen
CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A second not guilty plea is entered over $100,000 stolen from an elderly person in Floyd County. Charmaine R. Carr, 37 of Charles City, has now pleaded not guilty to financial exploitation of an older individual. Carr’s trial is scheduled to begin on September 17.

Davenport man sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for trafficking cocaine
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A Davenport man was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison on July 17 for conspiracy to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine, a media release says. Dale Ganaway Lucus, Jr., 39, was found responsible for buying and selling large amounts of cocaine in the Quad Cities area, public court documents said.
Wright County man sent to federal prison for gun crime
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – A Wright County man is going to federal prison for illegal gun possession. Michael Dean Hanus Jr., 45 of Clarion, pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Hanus Jr. has a prior conviction of Interference with Official Acts – Dangerous Weapon, which banned him from possessing a firearm.
