    The Lions Den

It hardly seems possible that another Fourth of July has come and gone. Walker streets were filled with fun and festivities as all ages found something to enjoy.

The day started off in the morning with music starting a couple of hours before the parade. There was also a busy group doing face painting in front of TJ’s Floral.

The large crowd gathered early in anticipation of the earlier starting time for the parade at 1 p.m. As usual lawn chairs and blankets lined the parade route several hours before. The weather cooperated and rains were late in the day and not too long lasting. The skies cleared and the town overflowed with young and old who gathered to watch the always amazing fireworks display over Leech Lake.

The Lions held their annual button sales and thanks to all who purchased one — 100 percent of the proceeds from that sale goes toward the expense of fireworks display. This year we were able to sell nearly all buttons before the evening event! Be sure to check the Chamber site to see if you may have won something!

The Lions annual Peach Sale is going on and this year delivery will be earlier around July 29 at the high school blue doors as usual. Please contact your usual sales person, or if you do not have one give me a call and I will reserve your peaches for you. My number is (715) 821-1761. The price this year is $45 a case or lug, and $25 for a flat or half a lug. This is one of our fundraisers that enable us to give scholarships to the WHA graduates and also to hold the Lions Honors Banquet every year for over 40 years!

Walker Bay Live is alive and well again in Walker this year, and the Lions will be serving food and brew at two of the Thursday night events. Look for us in City Park Aug. 1 and 15. This is a truly enjoyable hometown event where you can meet old friends or make new friends all while you are enjoying good music and good food! So put that on your calendar. This is another of our FUNdraising events.

All profits from this are earmarked for scholarships as well as other various charities we support. All Lions who are willing and able to work at either or both of these events can let me know. Basically we need three shifts — setting up about 1 p.m. until 4, working from 4 to 8 or 9, and then those who are willing to help clean up.

Trishaw has been and will continue a very full schedule. We have added a few new pilots and added a new pickup point at Park Estates. Trishaw is giving rides Tuesday and Friday afternoons from Park Estates and surrounding area.

    We serve!
