Arson suspected in Lake Street garbage fires, fire department says
MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities suspect several garbage fires on Minneapolis' West Lake Street Monday morning were intentionally set.One such fire spread to a building on the 900 block of West Lake Street just before 3:30 a.m., according to the Minneapolis Fire Department. Crews responded, searched the building and put out the fire. No one was injured, but a residence inside the building was deemed uninhabitable. The building also contained a business, which is now boarded up.While fighting that fire, the department learned of additional garbage fires on West Lake Street. An employee of a nearby business told police he saw someone setting the fires. Minneapolis police responded and detained a man, the fire department said.

Counterfeit $100 bills circulated in the area
VIRGINIA—The Virginia Police Department is asking the public to be aware of counterfeit/fake $100 bills that were circulated at businesses around the Virginia area recently. These bills have “Motion Picture Purposes” on the back and have serial number PM 257821811 K3 on the front, according to the VPD. “We are working with the effected businesses attempting to identify a suspect, said Police Chief Nicole Mattson. “We urge everyone to closely examine all $100 bills. If you come across a fake bill, please report it to your local police department.’’
Army Soldiers Hosts Event To Show Community What They Do
CHISHOLM, Minn. — There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes of the Army National Guard. On Saturday, Military members at the Chisholm Armory had the opportunity to show the community what they all do. People could check out the armory’s fleet of vehicles. Guests also had the chance to climb inside and look around. There was a lot of fun activities for the kids, like a bounce house. 17th Annual Reggae and World Music Festival Takes Place in Duluth
DULUTH, Minn. — Duluth’s Bayfront Festival Park was full of dancing, culture, and connecting on Saturday. It was all part of the 17th Annual Reggae and World Music Festival. More than a half-dozen artists shared their music with the crowd. Food trucks were there, too, offering Jamaican dishes and other food from different cultures. For some, reggae fest is about connecting with their roots, and celebrating where they came from.

Several people were injured after the Vista Star, a boat offering sightseeing cruises on Lake Superior, ran into a breakwater near Duluth on Saturday night. Looking at the new child passenger safety laws
Beginning August 1st, Minnesota caregivers will see a shift in child passenger safety laws. Children must remain in a rear-facing passenger seat until at least two years of age, remain in a forward facing-facing internal harness seat until at least four years of age, and remain in a booster seat until the age of nine. Once a child reaches nine years old, they must pass the five-step-test before graduating out of the booster seat.
