Carroll Community School District Board Of Education To Hold Special Meeting Adopting New Resolution For Bond Agreement Amount
The Carroll Community School District Board of Education released the agenda for the special meeting to update the resolution for the new proposed transportation facility. After the public hearing during Monday night’s meeting, the board members rejected the proposed resolution to enter into a bond agreement not to exceed $16 million and plan to lower that amount by issuing a new bond agreement. During the special meeting, board members will determine the maximum amount to bond to construct the new structure. Upon deciding that, the board will also schedule a public hearing to allow for input on the new resolution. The only other item on the agenda is considering an engagement letter with Dorsey Whitney LLP, which will serve as the project attorney. This meeting will be held in the Adams Elementary School Board Room starting at 8:15 a.m. The meeting is open to the public and can be attended in person or via Zoom. Lake View Boil Advisory Ended
Lake View city officials announced this (Tuesday) morning that a boil advisory issued for residents along Black Hawk Lake’s southern shore has been lifted. The warning was issued over the weekend after the public works department had to temporarily shut off service for a water main repair, which necessitated the advisory due to the potential for contamination. Officials have since received two negative tests for bacterial infiltration and ended the advisory. Staff thanked residents for their patience and understanding during the order. The 78th Crawford County Fair Starts Up On Wednesday In Dension

Fair Board member Jan Henningsen says she has been serving on the fair board for years and always enjoys seeing all the hard work the fair board has done over the last year come to reality. Henningsen says she especially enjoys watching all the 4H and FFA members’ animal shows, with many entries this year.
In the wake of pork plant closures, some producers take on extra costs
Over the last two years, several large pork packers have closed plants in California, Minnesota and most recently Iowa. For some pork producers, this means additional miles and more money to deliver hogs on top of tough economic times.
MRHC To Host Free Medicare Information Seminar on July 30
Manning Regional Healthcare Center (MRHC) will host a free “Welcome to Medicare” seminar on Tuesday, July 30, to help individuals navigate Medicare’s complexities. Attendees must register by calling 712-655-2072 by Monday, July 22. The event will be held at MRHC from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with participants entering through the Emergency entrance. The seminar is co-sponsored by MRHC and Iowa’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) and will provide comprehensive information on Medicare Parts A and B, Prescription Drug Benefits (Part D), Medicare Advantage Plans, and Medicare supplement insurance. It will also offer tips to identify Medicare fraud, errors, and abuse. Nancy Danner, MRHC’s volunteer SHIIP Counselor, emphasizes the importance of early information gathering, recommending individuals start six to 12 months before turning 65. For those unable to attend, additional seminars are scheduled for Sept. 24 and Nov. 26. Danner is available every Wednesday for appointments at MRHC. Man Pleads Guilty to Striking Biker With Vehicle in Deadly Hit-And-Run in Cherokee
Cherokee, Iowa – A man accused of being involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in Cherokee has pleaded guilty. According to court documents, 30-year-old Casey Herwig has pleaded guilty to one count of Knowingly Leaving The Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death, which is a class D felony. Herwig faces a maximum of ten years in prison, along with a fine between one thousand and ten thousand dollars.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Midland University Assistant Athletic Director for Athletics Communications Jeff Braun has been selected as the 2023-24 Dave Rebstock/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Sports Information Director (SID) of the Year, presented by Hauff Mid-America Sports. This is the first time Braun has been honored with “The Rebby” award for the GPAC. A vote of the league’s sports information directors determined the selection.
Storm Lake City Council by 3-2 Vote Approves Increased Funding for Participation in a Community Betterment Program
The Storm Lake City Council Monday on a 3-2 vote approved updating the city’s participating cost in a Hometown Pride regional program. Hometown Pride is designed to create and improve local facilities, spaces, and events in a community. Last month, the council approved joining a group of eight other communities in the program, and capped the city’s contribution at ten thousand dollars annually. Since then, Spencer has had to withdraw from the group, at least temporarily, to focus on flood recovery, which changes Storm Lake’s annual contribution to approximately $12,375 per year for five years, assuming no other communities join.
