WALL TOWNSHIP — Township education officials approved vacation and sick day reimbursement of nearly $100,000 stemming from a separation agreement for former Wall High School Principal Rose Sirchio.

The reimbursement, part of the Tuesday, July 16 meeting’s human resources report in the consent agenda, was passed without comment. Some other payouts to staff members included in the report are for sums of $200, $1,770, $4,980 and $10,230.

The reimbursement and consent agenda was approved unanimously. It was motioned and seconded by BOE members Kathleen DiGiovanni and Kenneth Wondrack.

Sirchio, whose administrative leave began in April 2022 officially ended as of Sunday, June 30.

Sirchio had a total 26 months of paid leave upon her retirement, which was commemorated at the BOE’s Tuesday, June 11 meeting. She had been on paid administrative leave since soon after she returned from chaperoning a school field trip to Disney World in Florida in late March 2022. The reason for her leave was never disclosed by the board, which has cited legal confidentiality in personnel matters.

Sirchio received a total of $99,116 for 118 vacation days and 64 sick days, according to the human resources report; Sirchio was paid $125 per sick day and $772.17 per vacation day.

A copy of Sirchio’s separation agreement with the Wall Township Board of Education, obtained by The Coast Star through OPRA request in September 2023, details the compensation owed to Sirchio at the time of her separation of services and retirement on June 30, 2024.
