The Columbia Basin recently experienced a welcome bout of rain over the past two days, providing much-needed moisture as we transition into the drier summer season. Some areas even saw a few thunderstorms yesterday, but the weather has since quieted down.

    Rainfall Recap

    • Walla Walla : 0.68 inches between Tuesday and Wednesday.
    • Pendleton : Just shy of half an inch.
    • Hermiston : A bit over a quarter of an inch.
    • Tri-Cities : Slightly below a quarter of an inch.
    • Yakima Valley : Only 0.06 inches, unfortunately missing out on substantial rain.

    Current Conditions

Despite the recent rain, today we're starting to dry out. A live look from our Kennewick SkyCam shows a lot of clouds this morning, but no rain is expected. So, you can leave the rain gear at home but definitely grab a jacket for the cooler morning temperatures:

    • Walla Walla : 48°F
    • Dayton : 42°F
    • Tri-Cities : 51°F
    • Prosser : 47°F
    • Yakima and Toppenish : Around 46°F

    Wind Update

The winds have calmed significantly since yesterday’s gusty conditions, where Ellensburg recorded gusts over 60 mph and Pendleton reached 50 mph. Currently, sustained winds are between 5-10 mph, with gusts up to 15 mph expected throughout the day.

    Forecast Overview

The storm system that brought the recent rain is moving east, allowing us to dry out and warm up today. An upper-level disturbance from Canada will bring light rain to coastal areas like Seattle and Portland tomorrow, but we’ll remain dry locally as temperatures gradually rise.

    Thursday’s Weather

Today starts mostly cloudy, but we’ll see more sunshine as the day progresses, turning out to be a pleasant Thursday with highs in the low to mid-70s and upper 60s along the foothills of the Blues.

    Tonight’s Sky Events

    • Partly Cloudy Evening : Clouds clearing out tonight, potentially building back in by early tomorrow morning.
    • ISS Pass : Step outside at 9:12 PM to catch a 6-minute view of the ISS pass, starting in the West-Northwest sky.
    • Full Flower Moon : May’s full moon will rise at 9:26 PM. If you miss it tonight, check it out tomorrow morning before 5:30 AM.

    Extended Forecast

    • Friday : Increasing clouds, staying dry, high of 76°F in Tri-Cities.
    • Saturday : Cooler with more clouds and a breeze, isolated showers possible.
    • Sunday : Warmer, highs in the upper 70s.
    • Memorial Day : Sunny and warm, mid-80s perfect for pool openings.

    Detailed City Forecasts
