WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Walla Walla Fire Officials said a home caught on fire after residents used bee spray and a lighter as a "homemade torch" to kill a hornets nest.

Fire crews responded to the call for help just after 10 p.m. on Monday in the 1000 Block of Willow Street for reports of a structure fire.

Officials said crews from Walla Walla County Fire District 4 and College Place Fire Department assisted Walla Walla Fire Station 1 & 2 in battling the blaze.

Fire officials said when crews arrived to the scene, smoke was coming from all sides of the home and flames could be seen in the bathroom window.

Firefighters said the home was significantly damaged but crews were able to get the fire under control just after 10:30 p.m.

According to officials, the cause of the fire was considered unintentional. Officials said a resident created a homemade torch using bee spray and a lighter to kill a hornets nest along the soffit of the home.

Fire officials said the use of the torch left hotspots which later spread to the attic of the home.

    No one was hurt.

Sen. Bob Menendez convicted of all charges, including accepting bribes paid in cash, gold and a car

U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez has been convicted of all the charges he faced at his corruption trial, including accepting bribes of gold and cash from three New Jersey businessmen and acting as a foreign agent for the Egyptian government. His two codefendants also were found guilty. The jury’s verdict followed a nine-week trial in Manhattan. Prosecutors said the Democrat abused the power of his office to protect allies from criminal investigations and enrich associates, including his wife. They also said he took bribes for helping Egypt access millions of dollars in U.S. military aid. Menendez insisted the stacks of cash found in his New Jersey home were legally earned and he was only doing his job as a senator.
