(The Center Square) - With the new school year right around the corner, Washington’s 295 public school districts are busy trying to figure out how to comply with the recently implemented Final Rule changes to Title IX, created by the Biden administration. The Hidden Heroes Fighting Wildfires in The Pacific Northwest
From the time we're young, we learn that firefighters are those brave people who suit up in bulky red and yellow gear with hard hats, jump in a firetruck, and speed with sirens toward fire danger (sometimes with a Dalmatian in tow). While it missed the mark in terms of starting, with a contract now approved, the city is one step closer to propping up the center and Mayor Lisa Brown’s scattered site shelter model. ...

It’s a facility that Washington residents might need if the state is unable to meet future energy demands, which the company behind the project warns is growing more likely. ...
Spokanites speak out against city council expanding homeless camping restrictions
(The Center Square) - As Spokane’s elected officials struggle to find common ground over homelessness, their constituents testified during Monday's city council meeting over legislation expanding camping prohibitions. Last November, nearly 75% of voters favored Proposition 1, a citizen initiative that made camping illegal within 1,000 feet of a park, school or daycare. However, Councilmember Michael Cathcart wants to expand the legislation that some argue criminalizes homelessness. While Prop 1...
